The best lobster roll I've had this season was at the Falmouth Sea Grill
. It's hard to beat the oversized high quality, toasted, buttered bun filled with an abundance of fresh lobster and a view of Casco Bay. I highly recommend the crab cake appetizer as a starter. Their sister restaurant, the Old Port Sea Grill, has the same wonderful lobster roll, minus the view.
As a second runner up, the lobster rolls at the Inn on Peaks Island
exceeded expectations. I figured that as a touristy summer haven the restaurant would produce a low quality product - was I wrong! The afternoon we dined, we paired two lobster rolls with the Israeli Couscous salad for a hearty and delicious lunch that I will return to have again.
The Dry Dock
disappoints this summer - the lobster rolls have declined in quality from when I had them last year. On a recent visit, the cold temperature of the lobster masked the typical rich buttery taste of the crustacean - and kitchen refuses to mix the meat with the mayo. Both strikes takes this off my list of places to frequent.
Leavitt & Sons is producing a high quality lobster roll once again - they increased the amount of lobster meat - and, correspondingly, the price.
If you have a favorite spot for lobster rolls, please post a comment - I'm on a quest to eat as many lobster rolls as I can before the end of summer.

Days in Yarmouth.
It's hard to find a decent baked stuffed lobster north of Portland and south of Camden and Falmouth Sea Grill does a really good one of those as well.
Lobster Shack?
The lobster roll of choice sounds and looks delicious!
Respectfully, I think the best lobster roll in Southern Maine is at The Clam Shack in Dock Square, Kennebunkport, Maine.
My favorite lobster roll is the Bridgeway Restaurant in South Portland. Not only is it an excellent lobster roll (perfectly toasted, fresh claw meat, etc.) but it's a very affordable lunch (less than $9 with fries). The place is a total dive though and not in an ideal location by any means.
j's oyster bar
My favorite one is the one at the little gourmet food shop the Greenspot near Augusta. We crave it those summers we don't get to Maine, like this one. But I see she just wrote about it at Oneforthetable.com and posted the recipe....so we're going to try to make it at home in S.F. but the lobster won't be as fresh.
Sea Basket in Wiscasset. Great roll and plenty of meat!
Lobster Shack is unpredictable, can be good one day, bad the next. Chowderhead's rarely has fresh croissants for theirs. Bridgeway's was a bit skimpier than they used to be last several times I was there, and our regular server is gone so a much longer wait to order than I have been used to on Saturdays.
Based on my last experience at each of these, Lobster Shack is the one I would most likely go back to. Chowderhead's never, Bridgeway if I want a lobster roll off season and have time to spend on waiting for my order to be taken.
